Obama and the iPad 2: technology is going to the Federal

Obama made have mentioned that the iPad is one of the devices that act as a “diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment” in his speech at the University of Hampton, but this did not stop him from jumping in to pick up his own iPad 2.

Obama has always been noted as a hip techy of a president, but he has now jumped into the ranks of college students and young professionals with his iPad 2.  It was a laughable response in a town hall meeting where he stated, “I do have an iPad.  I mean, Jorge, I’m the President of the United States.  You think I’ve got to go borrow somebody’s computer?”

The real question people are bringing up about Obama’s iPad 2 ownership is that with incredible shortages and people standing in excessive lines around Apple Stores, did Obama cut in line?  Obama has had the device for over a month.  It was reported that Steven Jobs himself gave him one at a dinner that included Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Eric Shmidt on February 17th.

Who knows if this will cause him to drop his Blackberry for the upcoming iPhone 5, but it may be safe to assume that you won’t see him waiting in line overnight at the local mall...
